‘I Can’t Follow Their System’- Joe Rogan Says that He Isn’t a Fan of PFL’s ‘Wacky’ Scoring System

Joe Rogan sat down with UFC Hall of Famer Don Frye, who appeared on a recent episode of his podcast. Don Frye shared a lot of thoughts about the fight game as it stands and even expressed an interest to make a comeback. During their discussion, Rogan shared his candid thoughts about the PFL to Frye.

Frye wasn’t familiar with the PFL’s working, and Rogan did his best to provide Frye with some background. However, while providing Frye with some context, Rogan also revealed that he wasn’t a fan of PFL’s format. He explained that the point-based tournament system left plenty to be desired for a casual fan.

“They have real good fighters over there. Some real good fighters but they have some wacky thing that they do where you get a certain amount of points for submission, certain amount of points for a knockout and then you move ahead. But you’re scoring, and they call it the playoffs and then you’re moving towards this eventual million-dollar tournament that they put together.”

“But their thing is weird, the way they have it set up. Like if you win, but if you win in the first round you get extra points. If you miss weight, you lose a point so it’s a hard to follow system. Even for me, who’s a big fan if the sport, I can’t follow their system. You got great fighters but you’re confusing the shit out of people with this wacky system.”

PFL: Vying for dominance

The PFL has made sincere attempts in recent years to make their mark on the fight game. Ever since coming out with the $ 1 million tournament format, fans have slowly begun to take notice of their fight schedule.

Not to mention, the organization has signed several notable names such as Rory MacDonald and famed boxer Claressa Shields onto their roster. Having more recognizable entities as a part of their stable has brought over a more casual audience.

However, many combat sports enthusiasts would agree that the PFL’s point system can be confusing to a casual viewer. The general consensus is that with time, a larger population of the MMA community will become aware of their format.
