Jerry Seinfeld is officially set to star in and direct a Netflix movie about Pop-Tarts after taking inspiration from his own joke.

Yep, the comedian wrote Unfrosted along with writer Spike Feresten and comedian Barry Marder based on a popular riff he performed about how he first discovered the sweet treat as a kid.

The 67-year-old most recently featured the bit about the invention of the toasted pastries during his last stand-up special, 2020’s 23 Hours to Kill.

Explaining how the upcoming film came about, the star said: ‘Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness.

‘So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.’

Netflix has given the go-ahead for production to start in spring 2022, according to Deadline.

In 2012, Seinfeld dissected the joke for The New York Times and explained how the first line, ‘When I was a kid and they invented the Pop Tart, that back of my head blew off’ sets the story in motion.

It recounted the moment when, as a schoolkid, his world was rocked by the breakfast product.

‘How did they know that there would be a need for a frosted fruit-filled heated rectangle in the same shape as the box it comes in, and with the same nutrition as the box it comes in?’ he playfully asked.

The upcoming filmis just the latest flick to focus on the origin of a famous food brands after Mario Lopez recently portrayed the creator of KFC.
