Molly Mae Hague is set to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with endometriosis.
The 22-year-old said it is ‘kind of a good thing, kind of a bad thing’ that she has been diagnosed with the condition after suffering from ‘excruciating periods’ for years.
Speaking on her vlog, Molly Mae explained that she had been to the doctors where she was told she needed a blood test, and as she has a fear of veins, she asked followers for their tips on curing her fear before she has to undergo surgery.
The Love Island star said: ‘I’ve told you guys for so long now that I’ve suffered with excruciating periods and so many of you guys have been commenting on my videos like, “please check for endometriosis”.’
Molly Mae went to a doctor ‘a couple of times’ to be tested, saying that she had ‘every sign and symptom of endometriosis.
She said: ‘My period pains are to the point where I literally can’t stand up, I’m in unbearable pain, I’ve had to take time off work… it’s ridiculous.’
However, the doctor kept brushing off her concerns, so Molly Mae went to an endometriosis specialist, who confirmed her suspicions.
She said: ‘Straight away they said, you absolutely do have endometriosis, it’s as clear a day.
‘I guess it’s kind of a good thing, because at least I now know what it is. It’s not a good thing I have endometriosis because obviously it can affect your fertility, it can affect loads of things.’
Molly Mae said that while there is no cure for endometriosis, she will be undergoing keyhole surgery to cut away patches of endometriosis tissue in the hopes it will relieve her of pain.
Endometriosis is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Many women struggle to receive a formal diagnosis of the condition.
Symptoms can include severe period pain, pain during or after sex, pelvic pain, heavy periods and difficulty getting pregnant.
The severity of the condition can vary, with the most severe cases being treated with surgery to remove affected organs, like a hysterectomy.
Molly Mae has previously spoken about her desire to have children with her boyfriend Tommy Fury, who she met on the fifth series of Love Island in 2019.
Last year in a YouTube video, she said: ‘I just feel like when the time is right, we will know. Honestly, if it was up to Tommy, we would have a baby today, tomorrow and the next day. He wants so many kids. I definitely, definitely wants kids soon, but not soon soon.
‘I don’t mind having a child out of wedlock – it doesn’t matter to me. We’re just so happy and we’re so, so excited for the day that it does happen because we just can’t wait.’
Since appearing on Love Island two years ago, Molly Mae’s career has gone from strength to strength, and is reportedly able to charge £12,000 for an Instagram post.
