Not as if They’re Fighting Lewis Hamilton: Steiner on ‘Dramatic’ Mazepin-Schumacher F1 Row

Haas has been struggling ever since the 2021 season has kicked off. With two new rookie drivers in the form of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, it is understandable that the American-owned team has been going through a rough patch.

Team principal, Guenther Steiner is well aware of this and feels that his drivers should race each other, and jokingly stated they are not racing against Lewis Hamilton.

Being asked about how the two drivers have gotten along after the Baku incident, Steiner said during the FP1 session at Styrian GP, “That was a bit dramatic. It isn’t as fun as made out too. But obviously, when you are at the back the only one you want to fight is your teammate. We would love to fight with Hamilton, but we cannot at the moment. We will have to wait a little before that. It wasn’t fun at the last race as it was made out of.”

“Obviously, we looked into the car afterwards, you know I say as long they don’t run into each other, we should let them race a little bit otherwise it gets boring,” Steiner concluded.

How did the Haas drivers do against Hamilton in F1 at Austria?

The first practice session of the Styrian Grand Prix is done and dusted. Hamilton had to settle for third place in the timesheet, while Schumacher and Mazepin were in the bottom half of the table in P18 & P20, respectively.

However, just in a few hours’ time, FP2 will be held giving the drivers another chance to zip around the Red Bull Ring to set the fastest lap. Hamilton, Schumacher, and Mazepin will be looking to improve their time from FP1 as they prepare themselves for round eight of the championship.

Do you think the Mercedes driver will set the fastest lap in the second session of the day, while the Haas rookies do their best to crack into the top half of the table? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
