UFC Fight Night: Gane vs Volkov- Charles Rosa vs Justin Jaynes: Prelims Prediction and Analysis

UFC featherweights Charles Rosa and Justin Jaynes will meet in the middle on the preliminary card for UFC Vegas 30. Both men are coming off losses and there’s a lot on the line for the winner moving forward. However, the pressure will be on Jaynes’ shoulders more, as he’s lost three fights in a row and is 1-3 in the UFC.

The featherweight division is currently in limbo as the champion hasn’t fought in about a year. The divisional contenders are beginning to catch up and are chomping at the bit to secure their shot at gold. While Rosa and Jaynes aren’t ranked contenders just yet, a lot can change after racking up a few signature wins.

UFC Vegas 30: Charles Rosa vs Justin Jaynes

Rosa is a UFC veteran in every sense of the word, having been on the roster since 2014. He’s had mixed success throughout his UFC run and he’s never been able to remain consistent. Not to mention, ‘Boston Strong’ has stumbled against the marquee fighters of the division such as Yair Rodriguez and Shane Burgos.

Charles Rosa sticks to the fundamentals when he steps into the cage and aims to build up to a dominant ground position. Over 50% of his professional wins have come via submission and he’s adept at isolating limbs to secure a tap out. Rosa has been technically irresponsible while striking at times and that could be very costly against Jaynes.

‘Guitar Hero’ Jaynes: On thin ice

As mentioned earlier, Justin Jaynes is on a three-fight skid and could likely be fighting for his spot on the roster. What’s more, the 16-7 fighter was finished in all three recent defeats and he’ll need to approach this fight with caution. Jaynes has gone to the scorecard only 6 times in his 23-fight career and he clearly prefers to play on the edge.

Justin Jaynes walks forward with reckless abandon at times and he finds success when he mixes in kicks. His hand speed leaves plenty to be desired, especially in the later rounds, and he’ll greatly benefit from fighting at range. Additionally, that will also give him the edge when Rosa gets in close to secure a takedown or body lock.

Prediction: Justin Jaynes to claim a unanimous decision victory
