Good Girls, the comedy-drama TV series starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman, has been cancelled after four seasons by NBC.

Good Girls, which premiered in 2018, follows three suburban women, Beth (Christina), Ruby (Retta) and Annie (Mae), as they decide to rob a supermarket after struggling to make ends meet.

However, while they get away with the money, they don’t pull off the heist as smoothly as planned, as one of the women is recognised by the store’s manager.

It has been announced that the fourth season of the show – which is currently airing in the US – will be its last.

After the final five episodes of the series air, with the finale being released in July, it will not continue, Deadline reported.

According to the publication, there had been hope of continuing the story for one more season, but unfortunately the plan fell through.

Christina, best known for playing Joan Holloway on Mad Men, reacted to the news on social media, sharing a meme with a picture of her in character on Good Girls.

‘Well, we gave it our all. We really did,’ she wrote in the caption.

‘Thank you to our amazing fans through the years for all your passion and support. #goodgirlscancelled.’

Mae left a heartfelt comment underneath Christina’s post, writing: ‘Love you ladies more than anything on gods green.’

The actor, who starred in the 2015 film The Duff, also shared the same meme on Instagram, with a series of emojis in her caption including a shrugging woman and a broken heart.

Several fans expressed their dismay over the news of the show’s cancellation.

‘This is unbelievable. This show deserves better. I’m so sick of seeing good thriving content get cancelled based off of numbers,’ one person said underneath Christina’s post.

‘What!!?? My fave show,’ someone else said with a crying emoji.

Other actors who star in Good Girls include Reno Wilson as Stanley, Ruby’s husband, Manny Montana as Rio, who becomes entangled with Beth, and Lidya Jewett as Sara, Ruby and Stan’s daughter.

Isaiah Stannard plays Annie’s son Ben, while Matthew Lillard plays Dean, Beth’s cheating husband.

The first three seasons of Good Girls are available to watch on Netflix.
