Lewis Hamilton Explains Why He’s Not Optimistic of Beating Max Verstappen on Sunday

The high-intense qualifying session is done and dusted, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen taking pole position, while his title rival, Lewis Hamilton had to settle for third place on the grid.

However, instead of believing he can make the difference tomorrow, Hamilton doesn’t think he can match the pace of the Dutchman and overtake him around the Red Bull Ring

Speaking after the qualifying session, Hamilton said, “It wasn’t the greatest of sessions but I’m still on the front row [because of Valtteri’s penalty].”

“I don’t think we have the raw pace to overtake [Red Bull]. I’ll be giving it everything. Maybe we’ll be surprised tomorrow. Maybe in rains,” Hamilton concluded.

The seven-time world champion is used to getting pole position at every race. However, this time around Hamilton had to settle for third place, while his archrival, Verstappen achieved a provisional pole.

Hence, the Mercedes driver will be looking to bounce back in tomorrow’s race, hoping to find the pace and defeat the Red Bull prodigy. Furthermore, Lewis is looking to win the race in Austria, a place where he won last time around and is hoping to regain the lead in the title race.

The only question remains is that, can Verstappen keep Hamilton in his rear-view mirrors, or will Lewis step and put a spectacular performance on Sunday? We will just have to wait and see.
