‘Little Bit of Stiffness’ – Jason Day Provides Update on Back Injury

Jason Day is leading the Travelers Championship after round 2. He is atop the leaderboard and leads Bubba Watson and Kramer Hickok by a stroke. The Australian had a bogey-free round as he shot -8 for the day and -9 for the tournament. Jason is making a comeback after missing out on the U.S. Open because of a back injury.

The 33-year-old fired a stunning 62 in the second round despite playing with a stiff back. In the post-round press conference, he was asked about the back stiffness and how can he still swing and play so well. And this is what Jason Day answered.

“Right, yeah, I felt a little bit of stiffness after my range session in the afternoon yesterday, and I just — I’ve been hitting a lot of flighted shots. You know, sometimes when I get a little bit too far left everything, has to go back and start crunching on the right lower part of my back again.”

Adding to this, the 12 time PGA Tour winner wants to work on his technique. But he is skeptical about it since he is playing in a tournament. He wants to make sure that his playing feels are where they need to be and not mess it up.

“Unfortunately, I need to work on a little bit more technique, but I don’t want to do that because I’m playing a tournament. I want to make sure my playing feels are where they need to be. If I go ahead and work on technique, it’s going to throw everything out.”

“That’s the hard part. Do you work a little bit on the technique and try and balance it out, so it takes a little bit of pressure off the body? I might do that tomorrow on the range. We’ll see.”

This is the first time Jason Day has lead or co-led after 36 holes of a PGA Tour event since the 2019 Masters. Jason is currently suffering a drought as he hasn’t won a single PGA Tour trophy since 2018. So he needs to keep his momentum going and try to be in a strong position on Sunday. Jason Day will tee off with Bubba Watson in the final group on Saturday.
