Jemima Kirke has teased what lies in store for her character Hope in Sex Education season 3, hinting that viewers will discover her ‘wild’ backstory.
After what felt like an eternity, this week the release date for season three of Sex Education was finally announced, with the hit Netflix series returning in September this year.
Fans were also offered a glimpse at the new episodes in first look pictures, which showed Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey), Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) and Aimee Gibbs (Aimee Lou Wood) dressed in conservative grey school uniforms, a far cry from their usual unique looks.
In one image, new headteacher Hope, played by Girls star Jemima, is seen speaking in a stern manner to Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu), with the official synopsis for the season stating that the educator will strive to ‘return Moordale to a pillar of excellence’.
At first glance, it appears that Hope will promote a more draconian style of teaching in the school.
However, in a post shared on Instagram, Jemima hinted that there’s more to Hope than meets the eye.

‘For those saying she’s got a stick up her a**, lemme tell you, Hope Haddon used to be QUITE the wild child back in her day,’ she said.
This could mean that season three of Sex Education will explore Hope’s backstory after introducing her as the new head of the school, having replaced former headteacher Michael Groff (Alistair Petrie).
Or perhaps she’ll use her past to relate to some of her pupils as they acclimatise to the new format of the school?
In addition to Hope, other new characters making their debut in the series are Peter Groff, the brother of the former headteacher being played by Jason Isaacs, and Cal, a non-binary student at the school being depicted by singer-songwriter Dua Saleh.

During a recent interview with Metro.co.uk, Sex Education writer Mawaan Rizwan teased that the fifth episode of the new season is going to make viewers ‘gasp’.
‘There’s a lot of unexpected twists and turns and in my episode, I write on episode five, something really pivotal happens,’ Mawaan said.
‘Something that might make you gasp.’
The ending of the season is also supposedly going to be ‘massive’, as told to Metro.co.uk by costume designer Rosa Dias.
‘When you see series three, the end of it is really quite interesting,’ she said.

‘Whatever happens in four, if it happens, wow – the writers have got a challenge. They’ve got a massive challenge on their hands.
‘It will be really interesting to see if they do do four, what they’re going to do. It’s massive.’
The first two seasons of Sex Education are available to watch on Netflix.
