Sonya Deville Announces the First SmackDown Superstar for the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

WWE has initiated the process of adding Superstars to the list for the Money in the Bank ladder matches for both men and women. The way to decide who goes on the list is by putting Superstars in the ring together in various matches. However, Carmella had to do nothing to secure her spot in the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match 2021.

On WWE SmackDown: June 25th, 2021, Sonya Deville came out to the arena and announced WWE have added Carmella to the Women’s ladder match. She didn’t have to wrestle anybody for this spot. Deville reminded the WWE Universe that she has previously won two such ladder matches. This gives her enough credibility to be a part of the match.

However, Liv Morgan pointed out she had defeated The Untouchable One prior to this, and WWE booked them in a singles match again. Unfortunately, she lost against Liv Morgan but it didn’t affect her Money in the Bank ladder match spot.

Carmella has a fascinating history with Money in the Bank matches

In 2017, Carmella was in the ladder match against Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and others. This was the first Money in the Bank ladder match for women.

However, Carmella won the first time because James Ellsworth climbed the ladder and dropped the briefcase in her hand. This received a lot of backlash but she reminded everything is allowed in the Money in the Bank match. However, a rematch was scheduled.

Ellsworth tried the same thing in the second match, but Lynch pushed him off the ladder. However, even at this one, Carmella emerged victorious.

The second win was evidence that she did not need someone by her side to help her win matches, or even bouts for that matter.

Carmella cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on the then SmackDown Champion Charlotte Flair and secured the title from her.

Carmella returned to SmackDown towards the end of 2020, and was revealed as the mystery woman. She cut a segment as The Untouchable One, and quickly gathered popularity. However, the company has not booked her in several feuds or bouts since then.

In fact, a fan suggested she should consider moving to Raw as she already looks good in red.

Eleven though WWE may not shift her to the red brand, she is definitely going to the Money in the Bank ladder match.
