VIDEO: Is Undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov the Next Khamzat Chimaev of the UFC With a Dominant UFC Fight Victory?

Shavkat Rakhmonov earned his second win in the UFC in as many appearances at the prelims of UFC Fight Night: Gane vs Volkov. ‘Nomad’ earned his second submission win in the promotion after finishing Michel Prazeres via rear-naked choke in the second round of their fight.

This was the Kazakh fighter’s seventh submission win of his career. He has gotten off to a flying start in his UFC career. After finishing veteran ‘Cowboy’ Alex Oliveira at UFC 254, Rakhmonov has managed to become the first fighter ever to finish Prazeres in a fight. It was a statement performance from ‘Nomad’, to say the least.

Prazeres, on the other hand, is a UFC veteran since 2013. He has now lost 2 in a row for the first time in his career. He managed to put together an impressive 8-fight winning streak during his UFC run. Since his loss to Kevin Lee in 2015, Prazeres was on a roll in the promotion having earned wins over the likes of Gilbert Burns, Bartosz Fabinski, and more.

Rakhmonov, on the other hand, is on an all-time high in his professional career. He joined the UFC as a high-flying prospect. Comparisons with fellow welterweight Khamzat Chimaev have been prominent since the earliest days of his UFC career. Needless to say, he has been able to live up to the expectations so far.

What’s next for Shavkat Rakhmonov after his win at UFC Fight Night: Gane vs Volkov?

Nomad‘ will be gunning for a top contender next. After defeating a perennial contender like Prazeres, it only makes sense that the rising welterweight gets a tougher test in his next fight.

One might argue that maybe a fight against Chimaev makes sense for the Kazakh fighter. ‘Borz’ has proven himself to be one of the best prospects of the welterweight and middleweight divisions of the UFC. He is touted as the biggest star coming up the rankings. ‘Nomad’ would love to test himself against the likes of Chimaev. What the company has in store for the 26-year-old next, remains to be seen.
