WATCH: Nikita Mazepin Mercilessly Trolls Himself Over FP2 Spin at Styrian GP
Nikita Mazepin is starting to gain a lot of fan-following after the troubled start to his F1 campaign. The Russian caught himself up in a handful of controversies, which led to the F1 fandom lashing out at the driver, and demanding Haas to terminate his contract.
However, months have gone by, and Mazepin seems to be gaining followers by his cheeky posts on social media. The latest post is all about trolling himself, and the fans just can’t stop laughing.
What did Nikita Mazepin post?
The Russian took to Instagram to post a picture of himself using a spinning top. To the ones who don’t get it, Mazepin’s technically trolling himself amidst his spin-induced start to the 2021 F1 campaign. The Russian also captioned a hard-laughing emoji.
The post shows up moments after he suffered a spin during the FP2 session at the Styrian Grand Prix. Mazepin ended up running a bit wide into turn 9. And he consequently lost his rear, as he spun onto the gravel.
Luckily, Mazepin managed to keep his car off the barriers and strolled his way into the Haas garage for the regular checks and tire change. The Russian ultimately did a decent job, as he finished the session in P18, ahead of Nicholas Latifi.
Has Mazepin improved since Bahrain?
Ever since Mazepin made his F1 debut in Bahrain, fans started off a hashtag, called ‘Mazespin’, pointing to his constant spins during each session. He also ended up putting his car into the wall on his very first F1 race, seconds after lights went out.
A similar story unfolded in Imola, as he had to drive around on a rather damp circuit. However, lucky for Mazepin, he managed to bring his car home in one piece. The good news since Bahrain is that Mazepin hasn’t caused any kind of crashes on the track, apart from the tiny and rather harmless spins.
What’s more, after losing over a second each lap to his teammate in Bahrain and Imola, Mazepin has steadily improvised his lap times and is lapping just over 0.2 to 0.4s slower than Mick Schumacher. Hence, can Mazepin finally prove his worth in F1 after enduring a troubled start to the season?
