Do Love Island contestants get paid?

The summer is right around the corner, and Love Island is finally in reaching distance.

The hit ITV dating show is set to launch on Monday, June 28 after being cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There’s already been drama among the new contestants, as Chloe Burrows revealed she’s ‘partial to married men’ and Liberty Poole refused to rule out having sex on TV.

While most contestants are there for love – and fame – the cash that can be earned from the show also plays a big factor.

Winners can scoop the £50,000 prize – but do contestants earn money for being on the show?

Do Love Island contestants get paid?

Each contestant reportedly pockets £250 a week, according to The Sun.

This is a slight increase on 2018 when they were paid £200 a week – to cover rent, bills and other essential costs while they are on the show.

A source told The Sun, ‘If you break it down to how many hours they’re filming every day it’s absolutely nothing!’

That said, the possibilities for post-show earnings are huge, with many of the cast raking in the pennies once they leave the villa thanks to sponsorship deals, social media influencing and other opportunities.

The victorious couple also get £50,000, or £25,000 if they split it evenly.

Data from SlotsUp suggests that Molly-Mae Hague and boyfriend Tommy Fury – who were runners-up in season five – have had one of the most lucrative post-Island careers.

It’s estimated that the pair may charge upwards of £18k per Instagram post when collaborating with brands.

Molly-Mae has also bagged herself a £500,000 clothing deal with Pretty Little Thing, while Tommy focuses on his boxing career.

Former contestants Alex and Olivia Bowen have also fared well, having notched up some huge brand deals since they appeared on the show in 2016.

The pair apparently make around £10,000 per Instagram post – and work with companies like In The Style and QUIZ.

The couples own fashion label, Exempt Society, is also said to earn them at least £950k in the next two years.

They also get big pay packets for club appearances, modelling and TV presenting jobs.

Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman, who were runners up in the first Winter Love Island, have also made a career out of posting on the social media site.

From their home in London, the pair post often to Instagram – reportedly to the tune of around £7,000 per post.

They have also worked with McDonald’s, GHD, and Paypal, and also own their own clothing line CONQR.

Love Island 2021 starts on Monday, June 28, on ITV2.
