Love Island 2021: Sharon Gaffka vows beauty pageant past won’t impact her in villa

The new series of Love Island is finally starting on Monday, after what feels like years of waiting, with a fresh batch of singletons ready to find a partner while topping up their tans.

To say we’re ready to witness a summer of love unfold every night is an understatement.

Beauty queen Sharon Gaffka is among those heading into the swanky Majorca villa, and is already an early favourite to win the whole show.

She is following in the footsteps of pageant winner Zara Holland, who appeared in season two – but was controversially stripped of her Miss Great Britain title after she got intimate with Alex Bowen on TV.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk and other press ahead of the launch, Sharon was questioned on whether this made her more aware of her own actions will be portrayed on screens.

‘I didn’t watch that series so I don’t really know how she left, but I am aware of the situation where she lost her title,’ she said.

‘I think having a lot of other beauty queens that had titles walk into the villa, I don’t think necessarily it was that she lost her title because she had sex. I think it was just poor timing on her behalf.

‘When you have a title, there’s a lot of other things that [go under that]. Some of those other contestants who had sex in there as well, didn’t face the same backlash because they didn’t have the title at the time.

‘Having done pageants before won’t impact how I behave in the villa.’

Sharon also vowed she isn’t planning on having sex on TV, but explained that there is a possibility that it could happen.

‘It’s not something I’m planning or intending to do it,’ she continued.

‘If you meet someone and you feel comfortable, and you really like them and forget the cameras are there, it can happen and it’s a possibility but it’s not something I’m planning on doing.’

Speaking on why she decided to jet to Majorca, she added:  ‘I applied for the show. It got to the stage where all of my friends are married and in serious relationships.

‘I can’t deal with dating apps anymore, so I’m just gonna take the plunge and see what happens.’

Well we can’t wait to see what goes down.

Love Island starts on June 28, at 9pm, on ITV2.
