Love Island 2021 stars have reportedly had all their social media posts vetted ahead of entering the villa on Monday.

ITV bosses have searched through posts and vetted contestants’ criminal records in order to avoid any potential scandals.

According to reports in the Sun, DBS checks have also been carried out to ensure no sex offenders slip through the net and take part in the series.

An insider said: ‘The makers carried out suitable background checks on everyone who was shortlisted in the selection process.

‘This included Disclosure and Barring Service and online checks of social media to make sure a potential contestant wasn’t a rabid racist or bigot.’

They added: ‘It wasn’t going to be an issue if someone had a conviction for shoplifting but the last thing the show needs is a convicted sex offender popping up in the villa.’

Social media has already played its role in the series, with bosses finding contestants for the new episodes through Instagram.

Faye Winter spilled the beans about how she ended up on a plane to Majorca for a summer of love, telling press including Metro.co.uk that producers actually slid into her DMs.

The lettings manager, 26, has already raised eyebrows when she laughed that she wanted someone to ‘rip her a new ars*hole’.

The new series of Love Island is set to arrive on ITV2 on Monday, with the show returning to Majorca after a long time away.

Faye is one of 11 singletons headed into the villa. Show bosses have made an effort to make sure the 2021 line-up covers the whole spectrum, including the show’s first disabled contestant.

Laura Whitmore will be returning to present the series while her partner Iain Stirling will be narrating all the antics.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to ITV for comment.

Love Island kicks off on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
