“Make the Most Out of Grand Slams”: Novak Djokovic Warns Rivals Ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021

Fresh from lifting his second career title at Roland-Garros, making 2 in 2 in Grand Slams this year and coming within touching distance of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s career Major haul of 20, Novak Djokovic has said Grand Slams is his biggest motivation to play tennis at this stage of his career.

Speaking to reporters ahead of this year’s Wimbledon Championships, the Serb said he is happy to have reached 19 career Grand Slam titles and if he can draw level with his Big 3 peers will be known in the next couple of weeks.

“Well, let’s see”: Novak Djokovic on 20th Grand Slam title

“I have 19 Major titles, so I know what’s the perspective with 19. With 20, I don’t know, hopefully I can find out in a few weeks. Well, let’s see,” Djokovic said.

He said he wants to get the most out of Grand Slams and peaking at the Majors is his primary objective at this stage of his career.

“Grand Slams are the biggest motivation I have right now, at this stage of my career. I have been saying that before, I wanna try to make the most out of Grand Slams as I possibly can, trying to peak at the Majors and I’ve been managing to do that throughout my career,” the current World No.1 said.

If lifting the Australian Open championship title was a triumph of human spirit over serious physical odds, the glory run at Roland-Garros was the reward for playing arguably his best tennis that saw him take down 13-time champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and Stefanos Tsitsipas in an epic final.

Djokovic says lucky to play at his best when it mattered

Djokovic said he has been lucky to play at his best when it mattered most and would want to keep it going at All England.

“I have had (the) fortune to really play my best tennis when it mattered the most, I think,” the Serb said.

He added that at his age, he has to prioritize events to take as much time as he can for his family.

Djokovic said cutting down on events and spending quality time with his loved ones back home helps him keep his motivation up for Grand Slams.

“Obviously, nowadays, adjust my schedule a bit more, with obviously quality time with family that means a lot to me and reducing the number of tournaments and trying to adjust everything so that I could be at my top level in Slams,” he added.
