Wimbledon Championships 2021 Schedule: Day 1 Order of Play Featuring Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Venus Williams and Others

After two years, the Wimbledon Championships returns back on Tour. Players and fans are excited to be part of and witness some of the best tennis showcased during the fortnight. Due to the pandemic, the Championships were canceled last season. However, things are in order to kickstart the 2021 edition of this magnanimous event.

Novak Djokovic to begin Wimbledon Championships 2021 on Center Court

As the Wimbledon Championships begin tomorrow, we take a look at some of the best matches on day one. Headlining the first day on Center Court will be defending champion Novak Djokovic who will begin proceedings. After that, American player Sloane Stephens will be up against two-time champion Petra Kvitova. The final match of the day will feature homeboy Andy Murray up against Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Stefanos Tsitsipas to feature on Court No. 1 at Wimbledon Championships 2021

Moving on to Court No. 1, we have the second seed Aryna Sabalenka who will face Romania’s Monica Niculescu. Following their match will be an exciting encounter between Stefanos Tsitsipas and American athlete Frances Tiafoe. The last match of the day on Court No. 1 will be between Iga Swiatek and Su-Wei Hsieh.

Besides these matches, there are interesting matches on the other courts. Five-time champion Venus Williams will be up against Mihaela Buzarnescu. 2017 champion Garbine Muguruza is facing Fiona Ferro from France.

The top seeds should get through the first-round matches without much difficulty. The match involving Murray could be tricky as he is competing in a Grand Slam tournament after a lengthy period. Nonetheless, a player of Andy’s caliber should eventually emerge on top.

Close encounters on Day 1 at the All England Club

Another interesting battle will be involving Stephens and Kvitova. Although the American player has been in good form, the two-time champion has the edge on the grass courts. Coming on to Williams’ match, she could face a stern challenge as the Romanian player is in good form. During the French Open 2021, she managed to take a set against Serena Williams.

The stage is set. Players have been training intensely in order to prepare themselves for the only Grand Slam event to be played on the grass. It will be observed how things go down over the next couple of weeks at the All England Club.
