Bebe Rexha has urged women in the music industry to ‘show up’ for each other, hailing the likes of Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper, who have done the same for her.

The Sacrifice hitmaker has long celebrated women in the industry, previously revealing her hopes to bring together stars including Rita Ora and Ava Max for a song.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk ahead of her collaboration with The Sims 4 for their digital concert, Bebe explained: ‘I just want women to support each other, even just to show face, to show up. It takes a text, let’s start from there – something super simple.

‘A text, an Instagram comment, some type of support, so we know that we’re there. I think that’s a really important thing because women in the industry, and in the world in general, we can feel alone. We have a lot that we have to do, a lot on our shoulders…cI think it’s really just important to show up.’

The 31-year-old added: ‘We’re taught to be competitive with each other when it comes to bodies and, and we just need to break through.’

In terms of women who have shown up for her, Bebe had mountains of love for fellow singers Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper.

‘Alicia Keys – incredible, incredible human, like so kind. Just like a sisterly, motherly energy. I’ll text her, she responds. It’s just all love. She’s just such a beautiful soul, so chilled, she’s so at peace with herself. And I just love being around her, she makes me feel so calm and she’s been really supportive.

‘And then somebody else that has really also been super supportive that I grew up listening to because of my mother is Cyndi Lauper. I love her to death […] But Cindi showed up to my Women in Harmony event that I threw a couple of years ago. She spoke to all the women, she inspired everybody in the room.

‘She showed up, she didn’t have to. She just talks to me, she just keeps it real. I love it. She’s from New York, I’m from New York. And she’s always just been super supportive and super loving. I never thought that like Cyndi Lauper would even know who I am!’

Meanwhile, Bebe has also been open about body positivity, with the star explaining that she still has her ups and downs with the ‘constant journey’.

‘I’ve learned to love myself and accept myself, but I have moments where I think I could do better, where I think I could love myself more – “I ate something bad yesterday, I didn’t work out for a month” and it’s a journey. There’s ups and downs and, I think for me, especially during the pandemic, I had to do inner work.

‘I had to learn to accept myself and that’s not an easy thing to do.’

Bebe is partnering with The Sims 4 for their new in-game music festival, and is set to perform her song Sabotage in Simlish, alongside the likes of Glass Animals and Joy Oladokun.

‘When I first started [with Simlish], it was a bit tough but when I got the hang of it, I was really proud of myself!’ she recalled.

‘I love a challenge and I love challenging myself, I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone so it was fun and when I finally heard it back, I was like “Wooh!” I actually had a great time, I love anything that’s different.’

‘I always love working with them, I’ve been a big fan of The Sims,’ Bebe explained. ‘Just the fact that you can be so creative and be yourself and create these worlds and just do whatever you want and express yourself.’

As for what fans can expect from the digital concert, Bebe added: ‘I’m playing piano and singing and I have an outfit on from one of my music videos and basically it’s an interactive concert where [fans] can watch me perform and they can also perform and it’s basically like a digital music festival which I think is really fun!’
