Congrats Max Verstappen: Dominic Thiem Visits Styrian Grand Prix Following Wimbledon Championships 2021 Withdrawal

The Austrian Grand Prix ended today, with Max Verstappen finishing as the winner, yet again. However, there was another star among the spectators today for the race during the Styrian Grand Prix. Dominic Thiem was present during the race in the Austrian province of Styria. Redbull Austria had invited the World No5 to watch the grand prix live.

Dominic Thiem has pulled out of the Wimbledon Championships and the Tokyo Olympic Games, due to a wrist injury. The Austrian sustained the injury during his second round game in Mallorca, against Adrian Mannarino. After a poor year for the Austrian, in ATP tournaments and grand slams both, he will be out for five weeks. What next for the World No5?

What next for Dominic Thiem in 2021?

Dominic Thiem was a favorite to win the Mallorca Open, which recently Daniil Medvedev won. The Austrian recently pulled out of his second round match at Mallorca, midway against Adrian Mannrino. He got injured in the first set itself, and did not continue after leading 5-2 against the French national.

Thiem is having the worst year of his life till now. He has zero titles this year, and to top it up, he also has zero appearances in the final of a tournament. The Austrian is having a 9-9 win-loss record this year. The 2020 US Open champion, will be looking for a comeback in August, for the same tournament. To defend his title, he will have to practice rigorously and play a couple of tournaments to get into the rhythm.

“I expect it’s going to be easier for me now in the biggest tournaments,” said Thiem after winning the US Open in 2020. Things certainly did not work out for him and the way he hoped for. However, he has time to make a comeback. If not New York, the Austrian will be hopeful of a title somewhere else.

It is never easy to be out of a sport, especially when you are injured. It will be a difficult period for the 27-year old, but he has time in his hand. There will be many more Olympic Games and Grand Slams in the future, for Thiem to prove his worth. It is a period of rest for the Austrian, a hiatus he will enjoy for a little, like he did at the Styrian Grand Prix.
