“Giannis Don’t Mind Being Humiliated”: Scottie Pippen Offers an Interesting Take on Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo has quickly become one of the most dominant forces in the league. The 2-time MVP has established himself as one of the best players in the league. He has developed his game through the seasons but, his lack of a jumpshot is always a concern.

6-time champion and NBA legend Scottie Pippen had some interesting takes when asked about Giannis. In addition, he also spoke about the struggles of 76ers Ben Simmons’ recent struggles in the NBA playoffs.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Shooting Struggles

Although Giannis doesn’t struggle to score regularly, his struggles with shooting have brought in criticism. The “Greek Freak” has often used his athletic abilities to get into the paint, and finish with a dunk or layup. However, his three point shooting has depreciated over time. Giannis was a decent three point shooter in his rookie season, shooting 34.7% from deep.

Due to his poor shooting, he is not able to take control in the fourth quarter of games. However, Giannis continues to shoot the ball, and doesn’t shy away from criticism. In an interview with GQ, Scottie Pippen said “But, Giannis don’t mind being humiliated. That’s the difference between him and Ben Simmons. Giannis will go to the free throw line and shoot two f*****g airballs and come right down the court the next time and try and dunk on you.”

How apt is Pippen’s take?

Although it sounds insulting to Giannis, it is a compliment to his mentality. The “Greek Freak” has had many instances where he has been ridiculed for his shooting, let it be at the line or from deep. And, he has accepted all criticism that has come his way.

Giannis is a mentally strong superstar, who keeps on working and developing his game. This is evident as he shot 30.3% from deep, and 68.5% from the free throw line in the regular season. Although these aren’t impressive numbers, there is clear improvement in him compared to previous years. He is always willing to learn and work on his weaknesses.
