Lil Nas X has savagely hit back at Twitter trolls who criticised him for asserting his sexuality.
The rapper, who is openly gay, notably kissed one of his male dancers during a performance of his single Montero (Call Me By Your Name) at last night’s BET Awards.
A big production was on display with an Egyptian-themed set and even a dance break inspired by Michael Jackson’s Remember The Time choreography.
However, this moment hasn’t come without its fair share of criticism online, with many blasting him for using the performance as a platform to proclaim his LGBT+ status.
But Lil Nas had the best response to shut the haters down.
Taking to Twitter, the 22-year-old first wrote: ‘We are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that I am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual s***.’

Later quoting the tweet, he added: ‘Like the song is literally about gay sex what y’all want me to do play the piano while baking a cake?’
One person later accused Lil Nas X of being ‘so insecure’ about his sexuality, that he is ‘over compensating for it’.
He agreed with this, saying he still has ‘a long way to go’ when it comes to accepting himself, but it’s why he continues to declare his sexual orientation in a confident manner.
‘You’re right I am insecure about my sexuality,’ he responded. ‘I still have a long way to go. I’ve never denied that.

‘When you’re conditioned by society to hate yourself your entire life it takes a lot of unlearning. Which is exactly why I do what I do.’
Another user was also critical of his performance as they believed it was too sexual and that children may have been watching it.
However, the Old Town Road hitmaker argued that the BET Awards were not a family-friendly show, and that parents should be policing their children into watching content that is more appropriate for their age.

He said: ‘That’s not my problem, stop letting ur kids watch the bet awards n***a put on cocomelon. (sic)’
The big performance itself received a rave response from the audience at the ceremony, who broke out into cheers, while viewers at home shared plenty of praise on social media.
Not everyone was a fan though, with Lil Nas later defending the performance.

‘Y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture,’ he said, after one Twitter user told him to ‘respect our ancestors’.
Remaining defiant against the hate, he later dubbed the BET Awards ‘LGBET’ instead.
