Loki: Sylvie star ‘wouldn’t turn her nose up’ at Doctor Who role as fans draw parallels with sci-fi series

Loki star Sophia Di Martino, who plays Sylvie in the Marvel series, has said she ‘wouldn’t turn her nose up’ at playing the Time Lord in Doctor Who amid comparisons to the sci-fi show.

In episode three of Loki on Disney Plus, the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) gets to know the fugitive Loki variant, aka Lady Loki, aka Sylvie (Sophia) on a more personal level after they both travel to an apocalyptic event in the future.

Loki and Sylvie’s interstellar adventure resulted in some fans drawing parallels with Doctor Who, what with the pair’s playful banter, basically becoming each other’s companion and the introduction of a new planet in the MCU.

During a recent interview, Sophia, who previously starred in programmes including Silent Witness and Friday Night Dinner, said that she could see the similarities between the two fantasy-driven shows.

‘I see what they mean – the duo as well. We’re each other’s companion!’ she told RadioTimes.com.

So what does the actor think about stepping into the Doctor’s shoes, or perhaps playing fellow Time Lord the Master? ‘I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it. But I haven’t really given it much thought, to be honest. I haven’t read any of that stuff,’ she said.

It has been speculated for several months that Years and Years singer and It’s A Sin star Olly Alexander would be replacing Jodie Whittaker as the Fourteenth Doctor, amid her rumoured upcoming departure.

However, Olly’s manager recently released a statement shutting down the rumours once and for all, exterminating the dreams of fans who wanted to see Olly take on the role.

‘Even though Olly is often contacted by Cybermen, I’m afraid I have to exterminate this speculation,’ his manager Martha Kinn, said.

‘As nice as it is to see interest in this story regenerate, it just isn’t true.

‘As OOD as it might sound, Olly is focusing on his music, for the time being.’

Well we already know someone else who might be interested… cough cough Sophia

Jodie recently gave her first interview since rumours of her apparent exit from Doctor Who began – although she didn’t comment on her possible departure.

She admitted that she found it difficult keeping her casting in the show a secret, but she ‘got used’ to keeping any other spoilers under wraps.

Loki returns on Wednesday and is available to watch on Disney Plus.
