Love Island star Dr Alex George has urged people to ‘be kind online’, especially around ‘body image’, with fans spotting a resemblance between him and 2021 star Hugo Hammond.

During the first episode of the ITV2 series, Hugo had his work cut out for him when he paired up with Faye Winter, only to be replaced by Toby Aromolaran.

In the end, Hugo coupled up with Sharon Gaffka, who expressed fears that the PE teacher might be too ‘nice’ for her.

While watching the launch, several viewers couldn’t help but draw parallels between Hugo and Dr Alex, who starred on the fourth series of Love Island in 2018.

‘Anybody else getting Dr Alex vibes from Hugo???’ one person tweeted.

‘Hugo is a lot like Dr Alex but I think this can only be a good thing. Dr Alex is prob one of the best things to come out of love island. A genuine good guy!’ another remarked.

‘Hugo is the new Dr Alex – no-one stepped forward but everyone’s gonna love him because he’s a cutie pie,’ someone else commented.

‘Why is Hugo the love child of dr Alex and Curtis and why does that make me love him more,’ another said.

Whether or not Hugo follows a similar path to Dr Alex in the villa remains to be seen, considering we’re literally only one episode down with weeks to come.

On the launch day of the new series, Dr Alex shared a post on Instagram reminding his followers to spread kindness on social media, ‘particularly when it comes to body image’.

Sharing a photo of himself in the sea, he wrote: ‘Love Island is back on tv tonight and I know so many are excited to have the show back on our screens.’

‘Don’t panic this photo isn’t a sign that I am going back on the island… I just wanted to post a gentle reminder to be kind online. Particularly when it comes to body image and appearance,’ he added.

Dr Alex said that he is ‘proud’ of how he looks in his picture, describing himself as ‘happy and healthy’ and stating: ‘Let’s celebrate ALL body shapes and sizes.’

The doctor emphasised that it’s important to remember that while the contestants are on the show, their loved ones may read the messages directed at them.

‘Importantly, so can your friends and family who might relate to that person on your screen,’ he added.

Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and is available to watch on ITV Hub.
