Martin Lewis drew praise from viewers for being a ‘refreshing’ change to Good Morning Britain as he made his debut as co-host of alongside Susanna Reid on Monday.
He is the latest face to step in for Piers Morgan, who quit earlier this year over his comments about the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s mental health, and will be in the hot seat until June 30.
The money saving expert confessed the gig had come at the wrong time as he was still recovering from dental surgery that made it difficult to speak – not that anyone was able to tell.
Martin explained: ‘The timing of this hasn’t been the best for me I had quite substantial dental surgery planned just after my show finished, which was a couple of weeks ago. My mouth is not fully healed so if you hear the odd ‘ch’ going on…
‘Worcestershire. Let’s hope there are no stories in Worcestershire this week because that’s going to be a particularly difficult one to say.’
Susanna reassured him: ‘It doesn’t sound that serious, you sound absolutely fine.’
He came across absolutely fine to those tuning in at home who called for the TV star to get the job full time.
‘I like Martin Lewis on @GMB stop faffing with other people and just give him the job,’ one viewer tweeted.

Another said: ‘Loving Martin Lewis on Good Morning brilliant fit! Best presenter yet hope he stays!’ while one posted: ‘I do like Martin Lewis on here, concise, clear, and asking pertinent questions. He’s a breath of fresh air.’
‘Liking Martin Lewis presenting #gmb this morning, every question he’s asked so far has been balanced and intelligent,’ read a further tweet.
‘Only 20 minutes in, but Martin Lewis on #GMB seems a breath of fresh air?,’ another read.
Said one viewer: ‘Martin Lewis should be a permanent replacement. He just seems more “on it” so to speak.’
Further positive tweets read: ‘Martin Lewis is doing well! Would be great if he could be the permanent replacement’, ‘I must say, Martin Lewis is a refreshing change on GMB on a Monday morning. Please stick around’, and ‘ Martin Lewis so refreshing. Like him. Keep him. Appears “real”.’
There was debate about whether he should wear a tie on the programme (Picture: ITV)
Susanna also prompted a debate about whether Martin should wear a tie while hosting when he decided to appear without one on his first show because it made him look ‘corporate’.
He said: ‘The tie thing is interesting because the bosses said, “Are you gonna wear a tie? It’s part of our format to wear a tie”.
‘I’m not disrespectful of the programme’s structure, I was on it for 15 years. Because I talk about money I’ve always had a deliberate thing, I won’t wear a tie because it appears corporate and when you’re talking money, I want people to understand I’m not on the corporate side I’m on the other side.’

They put it to a vote on Twitter with 88% of viewers deciding that he could ditch the tie for the rest of the week.
When chatting to Lorraine Kelly about what Martin should wear, she suggested he should keep it ‘casj’ (casual), with the presenter replying that he could wear a T-shirt ‘with the nipples cut out’. Bit of a leap, but still funny.
Those hoping Martin will be a permanent fixture on Good Morning Britain will be disappointed to learn that the man himself has already ruled that out, saying he has ‘other key commitments’.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
