SHOCKING: Age-Old Traditions Broken at Wimbledon Championships 2021 Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
The Wimbledon Championships 2021 has started with a bag of surprises this year. The canceled matches, the rain, and now we have on-court interviews have all had a few surprises. The players are giving their post-match interviews on the court itself, which has never happened in Wimbledon’s history.
The on-court interviews have started as a precautionary measure, to maintain social distance. The players will be giving their interviews on the court so that there is no question of contracting the virus in closed spaces.

Wimbledon and their rules and traditions
Wimbledon is extremely strict with its rules and traditions and follows a strict, all white dress code where players have to wear only white, head to toe. The event is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and the only Major that is played on grass.
There are no advertisements on court during the matches, apart from a small logo of Rolex on the scoreboard. Wimbledon believes in maintaining its charm and image, also paying equal prize money to both men’s and women’s winners. The change in rule was introduced in 2007, when the equal pay came into force.
The All England Club also believes in maintaining its aura, as they address the players and the category as Gentlemen and Ladies, instead of the standard men’s and women’s.

Wimbledon Championships 2021- Day1 Action
Although rain added a bit of disappointment to Day 1 of the event, Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka made sure to give the fans what they came for. The men’s number one seed, as usual, came back from a set down and beat wild card entrant, Jack Draper. The Serb went on to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 and maintained his image amongst the Nole fans.
Sabalenka, on the other hand, registered a convincing win over Monica Niculescu of Romania. She went on to win 6-1, 6-4 in the first round.
The remaining action is in play from Day1, as many matches were canceled.
