Taking a Look at All the Fighters Competing at the UFC 264 Event

The UFC 264 event is all set to be one of the biggest UFC events of the year. The much-anticipated event is scheduled to happen on July 10, 2021. This event has a plethora of splendid matches lined up, with the Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier fight being the main event.

Apart from McGregor and Poirier, there are many outstanding fighters set to compete at the event. Let’s look at all the fighters competing at UFC 264.

Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and the 24 more fighters competing at UFC 264

There are 3 early prelims fights scheduled. The first featherweight fight is going to be between Ryan Hall and Ilia Topuria. Ryan Hall is coming into the fight on the back of 8 successive victories. However, the fighter hasn’t competed since July 2019, and that could affect his performance.

While his opponent, Ilia Topuria, is also coming into the fight in exceptional form. The fighter has an MMA record of (10-0) and has never lost a professional MMA fight. Therefore, this fight promises to be one of the closest fights of the night.

Jennifer Maia and Jessica Eye

The second early prelims fight is between Jennifer Maia and Jessica Eye. Maia is a veteran MMA fighter with a record of (18-7) and last competed in the UFC against Valentina Shevchenko at the UFC 255 event and lost. While ‘Evil’ is coming into the fight on the back of two consecutive losses against Joanne Calderwood and Cynthia Calvillo and would look to get back to winning ways.

Omari Akhmedov and Brad Tavares

The middleweight fight between Akhmedov and Tavares promises to be a good contest. Coming into the fight ‘Wolverine’ would look to build on the win he had at the UFC on ESPN 20 event against Tom Breese. However, that won’t be easy as his opponent ‘Tavares’ is also coming into the fight on the back of a hard-fought win against Antonio Carlos Junior at UFC 257.

Zhalgas Zhumagulov and Jerome Rivera

Zhumagulov is coming into the fight on the back of two consecutive losses against Amir Albazi and Raulian Paiva. Therefore this fight is very important for him as he would look to get back to winning ways. However, Zhumagulov’s opponent is coming into the fight with an even poor record as ‘The Renegade’ has lost his last 3 fights consecutively.

Hu Yaozong and Alen Amedovski

Hu Yaozong won his first three MMA fights with conviction. However, the fighter has recently lost his form as he has lost 2 consecutive fights against Rashad Coulter and Cyril Asker. Amedovski is also coming into the fight on the back of two losses. Therefore, it would be interesting to see which fighter can finally get back to winning ways.

Carlos Condit and Max Griffin

‘The Natural Born Killer’ is a veteran of the sport and after losing 5 consecutive fights finally got back to winning ways at UFC on ESPN 16. He defeated Court McGee at that event and then went on to defeat Matt Brown in his next fight. Max Griffin has also had a similar experience as he has just won two consecutive fights after successfully losing two on the trot.

Niko Price and Michel Pereira

Price has had an interesting MMA career as since his (9-0) start to his MMA career, he has never strung over 2 victories on the trot. While his opponent ‘Demolidor’ is coming into the fight on the back of 2 well-fought victories and would love to continue that momentum.

Trevin Giles and Dricus Du Plessis

The middleweight fight between Trevin Giles and Du Plessis promises to be one of the best of the night. As both fighters are coming into the fight on the back of three consecutive victories. Therefore, a victory would be very important for both of them as that would mean a chance to compete against some top-rated middleweight fighters.

The next Conor McGregor – ‘Sean O’Malley’ and Louis Smolka

One of the most promising fighters in the UFC is Sean O’Malley. The fighter is very popular amongst the fans and has an amazing MMA record of (13-1). ‘Sugar’ will face Louis Smolka at the UFC 264 event and a victory for O’Malley would mean a possible fight against one of the top fighters of the division.

Irene Aldana and Yana Kunitskaya

One of the best fights of the night is certainly going to be the Adana vs Kunitskaya bout. Aldana is coming into the fight on the back of 5 victories in her last 7 fights. However ‘Robles’ lost her last UFC fight against Holly Holm and would love to get back to winning ways.

Kunitskaya, on the other hand, is coming into the fight in splendid form, having won her last 2 fights in dominating fashion. This bantamweight fight would be one to watch out for as a victory for either fighter could end up leading them to a title shot.

Tai Tuivasa and Greg Hardy

‘Bam Bam’ is all set to face Greg Hardy at the UFC 264 event. With an incredible MMA record of 11-3 and on the back of two consecutive victories, Tuivasa will be coming into the fight looking for a win.

His opponent ‘Prince of War’ has had a great start to his UFC career, however, the fighter is coming into this fight on the back of a loss against Marcin Tybura.

This Heavyweight clash is between two fighters of similar type and it would interest everyone to see which one of them comes out on top.

Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson

The co-main event of the night is going to be an epic clash between welterweight fighters Burns and Thompson. This fight could certainly be one of the closest of the night as both fighters are looking to make a statement in the welterweight division.

Burns is coming into the fight on the back of a loss to Kamaru Usman, however, before that loss, he had won 6 consecutive fights. ‘Wonderboy’ on the other hand has won two consecutive fights against Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque. A victory for Burns could well set him up for a title shot, while a victory for Thompson could show everyone that he still is amongst the very best in the UFC.

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier

The main event of the night is the whole reason UFC 264 is expected to be one of the greatest events of the night. Conor McGregor will take on Dustin Poirier in their much-anticipated trilogy fight. Poirier and ‘Notorious’ will face each other for the second time this year and third overall and going by the two TKO/KO decisions of their last fights, we can certainly expect even this fight to be an entertaining affair.

There are a plethora of skilled fighters competing at the UFC 264 event, and plenty of glorious fights are scheduled for the night. Which fight and fighter are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments.
