Vin Diesel ‘dying to do a musical’ and would consider making a Fast and Furious one

Vin Diesel has let it be known that he is ‘dying to do a musical’ and yes that includes a potential revamped, re-show-tuned version of a Fast and Furious film.

While chatting with host Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show about the newest film in the franchise Fast and Furious 9, the action star revealed he was extremely keen to do a musical and had had some fascinating film plans fall through.

When Kelly asked him if he’d be up for a ‘full-on Fast and Furious musical’, Vin responded: ‘Oh I’m dying to do a musical, so yes I would.’

‘I’ve been dying to do a musical my whole life!’

Without giving enough time for the image or understanding or glorious possibility of a Fast and Furious musical to sink in, the star went on to drop another bombshell as he admitted he’d almost starred in a remake of a classic movie musical, explaining that he was ‘this close to doing Guys and Dolls with Steven Spielberg, but we ended up not doing that’.

Again, imagine what could have been with that combination of reputation, popularity and box office power from Steven Spielberg and Vin Diesel, and it’s a musical?

The Groot voice star continued: ‘For the longest time, I thought the Nathan Detroit role in Guys and Dolls would be a very interesting one to revamp, the character that Frank Sinatra played.’

We reckon it’s not too late for Vin to realise any of his movie musical ambitions.

The Samuel Goldwyn 1955 movie version of Frank Loesser’s 1950 Broadway musical Guys and Dolls starred Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine as the central foursome and includes classic songs like Luck Be a Lady, If I Were a Bell and Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat.

Vin, who also dropped that he was a breakdancer in New York in 1982 in ‘the era of Flashdance’, showing he is definitely down with his movie musicals, might just need to wait for Steven to finish up on his remake of West Side Story first.

The iconic director of E.T. and Saving Private Ryan clearly doesn’t shy from the challenge of reinterpreting classic movie musicals as West Side Story is another from that golden age that was adapted from Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s 1957 Broadway show.

Meanwhile, Fast and Furious 9 has opened with an excellent box office performance as it broke the record A Quiet Place Part II set in the pandemic-era by netting $70 million (£50.3m) on its debut in North America.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Vin also hinted at a ‘spectacular’ follow up to this latest Fast and Furious release as he revealed the team has been working on the tenth franchise instalment ‘for the last year’.

‘I have so much to share and I’m holding back,’ he teased.
