“Great Mega Fight”: Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic Celebrate Switzerland’s Blowout Euro 2020 Victory Over France

Tennis Icon, Roger Federer, was all of us last night as we witnessed one of the biggest upsets in footballing history. The Euro 2020 saw World Champions, France, crash out of the tournament at the hands of underdogs, Switzerland. Historical to say the least, Federer reacted to his side’s emphatic win via an Instagram Story, saying, “Mega fight guys, So much heart, Quarter-finals bound”.

All praises

Switzerland took everyone by surprise going 1-0 up in the early minutes of the first half. However, two goals from Karim Benzema and an absolute stunner from Paul Pogba left the swiss on the brink of elimination. As a section of the stadium went quiet, the swiss fought their way back into the match, bagging two goals in the final ten minutes, taking the game to penalties.

An exuberant dive to stop Kylian Mbappe from netting, ended the scoreline at 4-5, eliminating the once favourites of the tournament. The staggering scenes from Romanian caught the attention of fellow countrymen, Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic, who were all praises the National side. ”Wow. Just wow #hoppschwiz”, said Belinda.

Wimbledon bound

All eyes now turn to the much-awaited, Wimbledon 2021. Returning from a shocking defeat to Felix-Auger Aliassime, Federer will be looking to regain his form and confidence.

Reflecting upon that loss, Federer said, “I had a mental moment where I was just not happy with how things were going in the match. When things derailed mentally for me, I was already down a break in the third. You might argue I would have maybe lost anyway”

Ahead of his first game against French International, Adrian Mannarino, Federer speaks about his preparations. “The good thing now, looking back, is I know it will not happen here because I’m ready, I’m excited, I’m pumped up”, said Federer. Focusing on the positives, the 39-year-old looks all set to make a comeback and fight for his legacy that is believed to be fading away.

Spanish opponents

The Switzerland Men’s National Team will now face Spain in the Quarter-finals of the euro 2020. Safe to say, Roger Federer will be backing his countrymen to do well against the Spanish giants.

Looking back at his own history against Rafael Nadal, Federer will hope his team can draw first blood and take the fight to the opponent. Focusing on his own game, the 20 Grand Slam winner will be looking to add another title to his name; hopefully, beating his Spanish arch-rival in doing so and setting an example for the Swiss footballers
