Lady Leshurr and Martin Kemp are giving the elderly community another shot at chasing their dreams as they’ll be forming a brand new rock band – for over 65s only.
The musicians are joining forces this summer for Rock Of All Ages, a four-part reality series commissioned by the BBC to find the next big stars who are more on the mature side of life.
Mentored by Martin and Leshurr, the contestants will compete for the chance to perform to thousands of music fans at an ‘iconic music festival’ this summer as the winning prize.
Applications are open to singers, guitarists, keyboard players and drummers whether they’re in their 70s, 80s or even 90s. Often on reality shows, the age ceiling is much lower so this will surely open new doors for older aspiring musicians.
Martin and Leshurr will also call on expert advice from famous faces to help steer the hopefuls in the right direction.
It’s similar to ITV’s The X Factor where celebrities would support judges, such as Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, at the judges’ houses segment of the singing competition to whittle down the final contestants for the live shows.
Spandau Ballet star Martin said: ‘I’ve been involved in music and bands since I was 16 years old, from a school punk band called The Defects, playing to just a few friends in small pubs and clubs, to Spandau Ballet enjoying every second of the sheer overwhelming thrill of walking out onto a festival stage in front of 50,000 fans!

‘I can’t wait to share that experience with the lucky few who make it into my band… who for whatever reason, their rock dreams didn’t quite happen. I’m so excited to give them a chance of a lifetime to make those dreams come true!’
Queen’s Speech rapper Leshurr added: ‘I’m super excited to be involved in Rock Of [All] Ages and cannot wait to get out there to start my search for the best musical talent the UK has to offer.

‘Our band members will prove that age is no barrier and that no matter how old you are you can achieve anything you set your mind to. There’s so much incredible talent around and I can’t wait to go on this exciting journey with them.’
Rock Of All Ages will air on BBC Two although an air date is yet to be confirmed.
