Mick Schumacher Sheds Light on Possible F1 Switch from Haas to Alfa Romeo

Ahead of the 2021 F1 season, Mick Schumacher looked set to make his debut for Alfa Romeo alongside Kimi Raikkonen; the German even joined the Italian outfit for FP1 at Nurburgring in 2020.

However, in reality, that wasn’t meant to be, as Mick joined Haas instead. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been a sound start to the F1 campaign for Mick with the American outfit, having secured 0 points out of the initial 7 race weekends. What’s more, the chances of Haas putting an end to their struggles this season are substantially low.

Amidst the rather disappointing rookie outing, there could be light at the end of the tunnel for Schumacher Jr. Reports claimed that Alfa Romeo have been eying Mick as a potential replacement for Raikkonen, who could well announce his retirement soon.

Is Mick Schumacher jumping boat onto Alfa Romeo in 2022?

As reported by Planet F1, Mick did not rule out a move to Alfa Romeo next season amidst persisting theories and claims. The German reckoned that his focus is entirely on the present, but also affirmed that there could be news in the near future.

I am living in the here and now,” he said. “I haven’t thought much about next year. We’ll see what happens in the end. I’m sure you’ll hear if something happens.

Haas have endured a horrid start to the season. And the fact that neither of their drivers possesses experience in F1 is affecting the team’s development plans. The American outfit are easily the slowest team on the grid at the moment.

But, Mick, on the other hand, has been squeezing every ounce of performance from the Ferrari-powered car to beat either of the Williams drivers at times.

Who could replace Mick at Haas?

At the moment, neither of the Alfa Romeo drivers have secured their futures with the team. While Kimi Raikkonen could retire from F1 due to the age factor, Antonio Giovinazzi‘s contract is coming to an end with 2021.

But, considering the latter’s form over this season, Alfa Romeo wouldn’t want to let go of the Italian driver, and will most likely offer to extend his stay.

Hence, regardless of who exits Alfa Romeo, there will be a vacant seat at Haas, alongside Mazepin. And, at the moment, Ferrari’s test driver, Callum Ilott, seems the prime candidate to seal the second seat at Haas.

Overall, only around one-third of the season has ended, and the driver’s market will wake up from hibernation over the summer break. So, how is Mick’s potential switch to Alfa Romeo influence the dynamics of the grid for 2021?
