Star Wars actor outraged by ‘idiocy’ of Disney for ‘changing name of Boba Fett’s ship’

A Star Wars actor and computer graphics artist has criticised Disney for seemingly changing the name of bounty hunter Boba Fett’s ship for a LEGO set.

Ever since he was first introduced in the original Star Wars film trilogy, Boba Fett has struck fear in the hearts of Star Wars fans, showing no mercy during his intergalactic escapades.

Boba recently made a highly-anticipated return in The Mandalorian season two, with Temuera Morrison’s iteration of the character joining forces with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) with his famous spaceship in tow.

It was recently reported that the bounty hunter’s unmistakeable spaceship is to be renamed on LEGO merchandise, with its title Slave 1 being replaced with the simple title ‘Boba Fett’s Starship’.

Following the original report, which came from Star Wars news site Jedi News, one person who voiced their opposition was Mark Anthony Austin, who played Boba in an uncredited role in the special edition of the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

‘When applying for personalized plates for my car the DMV would not allow “Slave1“. Okay I understand. Had to try. But I get it,’ he tweeted.

This #disney idiocy however. Not buying it. Not conforming to the Mouse, no siree. Not gonna happen.

When I was growing up I loved #disney. No more. pic.twitter.com/9076VcIiwN

In another tweet, Mark shared a picture of himself with a miniature model of the ship, writing: ‘You’ll always be Slave1 to me!’

‘I cannot put into words how much I love this spaceship. It’s like Han has Chewie. I’ve always had Slave1. You cannot just change that. #markanthonyaustin #slave1,’ he added.

He also questioned whether other titles in Star Wars, such as the Death Star, could also be changed.

According to Jedi News, Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, design director of LEGO Star Wars, said that ‘everybody’ is dropping the Slave 1 name, stating: ‘It’s probably not something which has been announced publicly but it is just something that Disney doesn’t want to use any more.’

The LEGO set can be found on the toy company’s website ahead of its August release, titled: ‘Boba Fett’s Starship.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Disney and Lucasfilm for comment.

The Book of Boba Fett is expected to drop on Disney Plus in December 2021.
