After Life star Peter Egan chokes up on Lorraine as he opens up about late wife Myra Frances: ‘I adored her’

Peter Egan choked up as he opened up about his wife’s death on today’s instalment of Lorraine.
The After Life actor announced that his partner of 49 years, Myra Frances, died in March, following a battle with cancer.
The 74-year-old appeared on the ITV series to discuss trophy hunting, and the anniversary of Cecil the lion’s death, when the host asked about his own grief.
‘For you, this has been a sort of lifelong crusade in a way,’ Lorraine said. ‘And I know that by your side was your lovely wife who sadly died, suddenly.
‘I’m so sorry for your loss because she was a very, very special woman.’
‘She was,’ Peter replied as he struggled to compose himself.

As Lorraine apologised once more, his voice cracked as he continued: ‘No, it’s okay. It’s only three months so excuse me. Whenever I think [of her], I kind of collapse a little bit.
‘She was a wonderful woman, and I adored her. She was very inspirational.
‘In fact she was responsible for my first becoming engaged with trophy hunting and animal rights, and animal welfare. Some 30 odd years ago when we started rescuing dogs.’
Viewers were left emotional over the interview, and shared their support for Peter on Twitter.
‘My heart went out to @PeterEgan6 on #Lorraine this morning,’ one commented. ‘To lose anyone is devastating, but after 49 years together and to have only been in the last 3 months..gosh, it’s such early days.

Peter announced Myra’s death in March, telling fans his heart was ‘broken’ over his loss.
The couple had been married for 45 years after meeting on the set of TV drama The Organisation in 1972 before tying the knot four years later.
‘This is the saddest post I will ever have to make. My wonderful wife Myra, my friend & soulmate lost her battle with cancer at 1.30am on Tuesday,’ he tweeted earlier this year.
‘This message is for all her followers on her FB & Twitter @EganMyra. She was the most amazing human being. My heart is broken.’

Speaking in a video, he added: ‘I’m finding it very difficult to say that my wonderful wife died of cancer in the early hours of Tuesday morning at 1.30am, and I’m absolutely devastated and it’s very hard to think straight at the moment.
‘She was the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, I miss her desperately and I will make a clearer announcement about this later and I will carry on my campaigning because she was the person who taught me to be human, to be compassionate to be kind and empathetic.
‘Goodbye for now, and please everyone be kind.’
Lorraine continues on weekday mornings, at 9am, on ITV.
