“Really Nice Connection With Grass”: Novak Djokovic Taunts Wimbledon Championships 2021 Surface After R2 Victory

Tournament favorite and number one seed, Novak Djokovic has not disappointed the fans, at Wimbledon this year. After a comfortable first round win, Djokovic had brushed past South African player, Kevin Anderson.

The trend of upsets this year, has created a certain sense of fear amongst the top ranked players. However, Djokovic has provided a sense of calm and ease, with his dominating performance. The Serb made a comeback against Jack Drapper of Great Britain, in his first round game. However, the second round game was a cakewalk for him, as a fired up Djokovic won the game 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

Novak Djokovic has shown his worth, and the reason he is the number one ranked player in the world. Even though Anderson got more aces than the Serb, Djokovic left no corner untouched, when it came to showing dominance.

The Serb got four out of eight break points, and was ahead of the South African in winning his serves. He won 84% points on his first serve, and 73% points on his second serve. The crowd got their ticket’s worth, as the Serb showed hints of irritation when he lost points. The World No1 was pleased with his overall performance, which took him an hour and 41 minutes to get a win.

Djokovic examined Anderson’s game after the win, as he provided knowledge about his thought process. “I knew that Kevin was going to serve big and I was not going to have too many chances to break his serve. So I might as well try to play solid but not too risky. I’ve done much better than I thought I would do,” said Djokovic.

A fourth straight win for Djokovic over Anderson and a second successive day of slipping

Novak Djokovic beat Kevin Anderson for the fourth time, at SW19. The previous three times were in 2011, 2015 and 2018. Djoker was seen falling and slipping on the grass yet again, however, he was at full stretch while returning the fast serves. He jokingly said that, he has a special connection with the grass and the fans. Maybe that helped him for his fourth win over Anderson.

We are used to playing in front of crowds but in the last 18 months that hasn’t been the case and I’m just super happy to see all of you guys on the court. It’s wonderful, thank you so much. Also I seem to be having a really nice connection with the grass. I don’t recall falling this much in the first two matches of Wimbledon but yeah I did have a connection with the crowd and the grass today, it’s very nice,” said Djokovic in his post match interview to BBC.

Djokovic is known for his humor, and showed his wit during the post match on court interview. “I believe in myself but I mean it was really almost flawless performance today, very, very pleased,” said an elated Djokovic after the game.

Djokovic has shown his dominance at SW19, as he won a game against Drapper yesterday in 46 seconds. He showed today, how hungry he was for the match to get over quickly. Fast returns, aces, drop shots and the slippery feet, were all a part of the Serb’s victory. He will return for his third round game on Friday.
