WWE Superstar Carmella Describes Her Journey as a New England Patriots Cheerleader
Carmella has had a fruitful WWE career so far. She was the first women’s Money in the Bank winner and a former SmackDown Women’s Champion. Before coming to the WWE, she was a cheerleader for the New England Patriots football team, a feat only a few people can brag about.
Carmella details her journey as a cheerleader
Carmella joined the WWE in 2013, bidding adieu to an incredible cheerleading career. Not only did she cheer for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, but became a Laker girl in 2011.
Appearing on the Out of Character podcast with Ryan Satin, Carmella described the process to becoming a cheerleader for the New England Patriots.
“So I danced my whole life. I started dancing when I was three, and then when I graduated high school, I was like what am I going to do. I really just wanted to move to LA and just get into the dance industry. And my mom was like no, you have to go to college. So I ended up going to school and while I was going to UMass, I was like, should I join the dance team or the cheer team?”
“I was like, I’m just going to try out for the New England Patriots and I just on the whim went and tried out, and I ended up making it.” She described it as a great part-time job while she studied at UMass. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion even claimed she used her part-time cheerleading career as an excuse to get out of class.

What was the process like?
Ryan Satin asked her about the process to become a cheerleader, given his limited knowledge. Carmella then explained the rigorous process she went through to get to that stage.
“I honestly had no idea what to expect; I just showed up, and it was a whole day’s worth. There were- I don’t know- five, six hundred people that showed up, and then you kind of just keep trying. Like, there’s cuts throughout the day and then at the end of the day there’s like a two-week camp and you have to go do interviews show if you can speak well and there’s a bikini thing.”

She confessed that when she moved from the Patriots to the Los Angeles Lakers; the process was far more rigorous. However, it was nothing like trying out for WWE.
