Jake Quickenden has penned a heartfelt tribute to fatherhood and his baby son ahead of Leo’s hernia operation next week.

After having to wait six weeks for the procedure, 32-year-old dad Jake admitted he was feeling ‘nervous’ ahead of the op and, in a sentiment familiar to many parents, ‘guilty we couldn’t stop it from happening’.

Alongside snaps of Leo now and at just a few days old, the former X Factor contestant wasn’t shying away from how ‘tough’ it had been dealing with Leo’s hernia as well as new dad life in general.

‘On the left a couple days in, a tiny little sleeping machine, little did we know we would have some tests, back and fourth to hospital, changed milk and acid reflux, it was tough and still is to be honest,’ he wrote.

But the 2018 Dancing On Ice champion was also excited about his ‘not so little legend’ starting to ‘get his own personality’ and engage more with the world, even if he was ‘not sleeping great at the minute.’

Jake shared: ‘I just think he’s wants to see us or he wants a cuddle, it makes me feel better about being up 4 time’s a night !!’

The footballer and reality TV star also mulled over his baby boy’s future.

‘I’m nervous he has his hernia operation a week today,’ Jake admitted, ’I’m guilty we couldn’t stop it from happening, all I want is to bring happiness to this little boy and I think we are all doing a good job of that, he never stops smiling apart from when he wants milk and I will continue to always try and make him happy.’

He then concluded: ‘I guess what I’m trying to say is they grow up so fast, don’t wish a single day away, embrace every cuddle, enjoy every feed, because one day they will be making a pot noodle and they won’t need you as much. ❤️❤️🦁🍼!!!’

Jake revealed in June that little Leo would be undergoing an operation on his hernia after he and partner Sophie Church took their baby to an expert to get it checked out.

Updating fans on his Instagram afterwards, Jake explained: ‘So it turns out he does need a little operation, he’s not in pain but where it is in his groin it can strangulate and get into his testicles pretty much.

‘It’s pretty worrying but we have to wait about six weeks for the hospital to get in touch.

‘But it’s better to get it sorted if it can cause any future troubles and he seems pretty happy, he’s not in pain as I said.

‘Better to get it sorted, it’s just worrying. I’ve had a lot of lovely messages, so thank you for reassuring me.’
