Ryan Reynolds makes his TikTok debut and it’s exactly as weird as you thought it would be

There’s Deadpool, AFC Wrexham and trolling already

Ryan Reynolds has joined TikTok in exactly the sarcastic, self-satirising way you’d expect, and in just one day has already parodied himself, referenced Deadpool, shown love to his football team Wrexham AFC and trolled his co-owner.

Wishing to set the bar low, like he isn’t an expert user of social media, the 44-year-old announced his arrival on the platform with a lip sync to All-4-One’s classic schmaltzy ballad I Swear, which he captioned: ‘I swear you will be disappointed by this account.’

However, the song was delivered in signature Ryan Reynolds style and performed with some familiar moves for anyone who remembers his take on it from 2005 comedy Just Friends, so I think we can already consider fans un-disappointed.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard star, who describes himself in his bio as ‘Owner of Aviation Gin, Mint Mobile, Maximum Effort and Wrexham AFC’, then went on to give the football club he bought earlier this year some love as he posted a snap of himself in Deadpool make-up and made use of the Wrexham AFC filter available on TikTok (oh yes), which allows users to don their own club shirt.

This comes as the Chinese social media platform has been unveiled as a sponsor for the Welsh team, which competes in the fifth tier of the English football league system and is the third oldest professional football team in the world, having been founded in 1864.

Co-owned by Ryan and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, the duo has grand plans for the team, including a Netflix series, and also them all joining TikTok together.

As the stars appeared in a video on Wednesday on Wrexham AFC’s box-fresh account to announce the sponsorship, they also set up their own accounts and Ryan needed no excuse to start dragging his business partner.

Using clips from Rob’s, also 44, first video on the platform, where he poked fun of himself as a ‘middle-aged man’ on TikTok looking for a duet partner, Ryan interspersed it with footage of himself saying ‘Nope’ and shushing Rob before telling him to ‘Just rest’.

He was also clear in his caption too, writing: ‘There will be no duets, @rmcelhenney.’

Ryan has long been a popular celebrity on social media, trolling his pals left, right and centre.

One of his most frequent targets is his wife of almost nine years Blake Lively, who often gives as good as she gets.

On US Mother’s Day, Ryan joked about anonymous airport bathroom sex leading to their relationship and Blake hiring Dog the Bounty Hunter to track him down, before concluding, we assume more sincerely: ‘Either way, I’m lucky to reflect a little of the sunlight you shine on all of us. Happy Mother’s Day, my love.’
