Stefanos Tsitsipas, Corentin Moutet and Radu Albot Receive 1st Round Fine at Wimbledon Championships 2021

Wimbledon Championships 2021 has announced the fines issued so far in the tournament. Notably, Greek professional Stefanos Tsitsipas, Frenchman Corentin Moutet, and Moldovan Radu Albot have made it to the list. Also, cases of 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and French professional Benoit are still under review.

Firstly, the French Open finalist Tsitsipas saw the first upset of the Championships this year. Lacking match practice on grass, the Greek lost to American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets.

More strikingly, Tsitsipas looked for help towards his father, also his coach, and violated the coaching rule. It is now clear that he received a $3000 fine for abolishing the rule.

Furthermore, French professional Moutet received a $2500 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. And lastly, Moldovan Albot got $2500 for racquet abuse.

Additionally, the tennis community got its hearts broken when Serena Williams injured her right leg and retired from her opening round match. Following that, she skipped the media duties, which is a mandatory task for all players. Her case is still undergoing review.

Unsurprisingly, the French professional Benoit Paire found himself in the midst of trouble again. This time, he has been accussed of tanking his match against Argentine Diego Schwartzman. However, there are no fines issued against him as of now.

Strict fines at Wimbledon Championships

The oldest tournament has always been pertinent about traditions and has severely punished violations. More so, even record eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer faced trouble for adding orange soles to strict white policy.

However, the aforementioned fines apply to every player in each of the tournaments they play. The only different thing is the event authorities can decide how much to punish a particular violation.
