Cats’ infamous ‘butthole cut’ also gave star eight CGI ‘radioactive pink’ nipples

Cast your minds back to the simpler times of 2019, when box office bomb Cats and its infamous ‘butthole cut’ were among the more shocking happenings of the year, as the saga has only got worse.

Dancer Robbie Fairchild, who played Munkustrap, one of the main cats who acted as a sort of narrator-slash-guide for the baffling movie musical, is happy to confirm that he has seen the mythical ‘butthole cut’ of the film, and there’s even more to it than that.

An anonymous member of the Cats visual effects team released a statement in March 2020 when fans were being stirred into a frenzy by rumours online about a previous cut of the film, which had already been marred by embarrassing CGI and editing goofs in its earliest released version, to try and clear up the matter.

While claiming there were never any buttholes ‘by design’, they revealed: ‘There were a dozen or so shots where the skin and fur sim was groomed or just folded in a way that really REALLY looked like very furry lady genitals and buttholes by accident.’

And now Robbie brings more to the table, and this time it’s nipples.

Talking to Page Six, the star shared: ‘It was my favourite thing in the world. They gave me eight nipples. They were like radioactive pink.’

The 34-year-old isn’t one to regret the movie in any way though, as he declared: ‘If you’re going to be in a flop, be in a big one.’

As well as embracing his appearance in Cats, Robbie also casually dropped that his on-set Bananagrams partner, one Dame Judi Dench, is still in touch.

‘Judi texts me. We have stayed involved in each other’s lives. What kind of wild world is that? It’s so f**king cool,’ he shared.

James Corden, who starred as Bustopher Jones in the film, has been keener to distance himself from Cats, revealing in December 2020 to US chat show host Stephen Colbert, a year after the film’s release, that he hadn’t seen either the final version or the ‘butthole cut’ of the film and thought that ‘either way, it probably can’t save that movie’.

James had previously appeared to have possibly had shade thrown at his performance by the show’s composer and creator, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, when he was hosting a live commentary of the 1998 filmed show version of Cats on YouTube.

Sharpening his claws, but without mentioning names, Andrew praised James Barron’s 1998 performance as ‘Bustopher without interruption’ and warned fans not to be ‘beguiled by other versions’.

‘Other versions with unfunny interpolations which I begged to be cut out,’ the theatre impresario added.
