Former UFC Star Nate Marquardt Set to Return After Fours Years Out With Titan FC on August 6th

Former UFC middleweight title contender Nate Marquardt is set to make a comeback after almost four years away from the sport. At the recent Titan FC 70 event, Marquardt announced that he would fight once again on August 6th. 

Marquardt made his announcement as he came into the cage between fights and announced that he would be making a comeback. He also went on to give the reason behind his come back saying, “It’s 100 percent God. Honestly, I’ve been sent here to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. And He’s the only way to be saved and our nation is in desperate need right now to turn back to the Lord. I believe that’s the message God has for me and I’m really excited to fight again”

Nate Marquardt’s UFC run

‘The Great’ was a part of the UFC for the better part of a decade. During that time, he faced the very best the UFC had to offer. He has secured wins over the likes of Demian Maia and Martin Kampmann among others. ‘The Great’ made his UFC debut In August 2005 with a unanimous decision win over Ivan Salaverry. 

Marquardt had a brilliant start to his UFC career, winning his first four fights in a resounding manner. This set up a title fight with middleweight great Anderson Silva at UFC 73. Unfortunately for ‘The Great’ he was stopped in the very first round and failed to realize his dream of becoming a world champion in the UFC.

Following his loss to Silva, Marquardt won four of his next five fights before succumbing to a loss against Chael Sonnen at UFC 109 the fight was a middleweight title eliminator and Sonnen went on to challenge Anderson Silva for the belt after his win over Marquardt. Between 2005 and 2017, Marquardt always competed in the UFC. The only exception being a two-fight stint with Strikeforce where, in his very first fight, he secured a knockout win over Tyron Woodley to become the Strikeforce welterweight champion. 

In his last five fights with the UFC, Nate Marquardt had an abysmal record of 1-4. His last fight in the promotion was a split decision loss to Cezar Ferreira in November 2017. ‘The Great’ announced his retirement a month later and has not competed ever since.
