Over the course of time, boxing fans have witnessed some special boxers who have stirred the sport. Manny Pacquiao is one such boxer on that list who has amassed wide fame and attention with his slick performances and his humble attitude.
The Filippino Senator is also on the verge of making his boxing return after a long hiatus of over 2 years. He will lock horns with Errol Spence Jr. for the latter’s welterweight title defense. A huge chunk of fans seemed happy with the fact that they’ll see ‘Pacman’ in the ring again.
But the Filipino boxing legend was also on the receiving end of a huge backlash coming from a few fans who thought that he got a title fight with little activity in the ring. However, the WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, has expressed his own take on the same, backing Pacquiao in this matter.
Speaking to Behind The Gloves, he said, “Well Manny Pacquiao is a legendary champion, a Hall of Famer for certain. He’s a great influence to the Philippines as a governor and also to the world and he’s defying time once again.”
“He’s a proud member of the boxing community and he deserves the opportunity.”
Sulaiman even asserted that ‘Pacman’ has beaten some solid champions. Hence, he has every opportunity to win any fight he takes.
As of now, the Filippino Senator is immersed in his training camps for the Errol Spence Jr. fight. On August 21, he will look to be ready to roar once he takes up the ring space against the undefeated welterweight sensation.
Should Manny Pacquiao continue fighting after the Errol Spence Jr. fight?
Manny Pacquiao has hung around the sport for almost three decades and has fought the biggest of contenders.
He still has that same hunger in him and is keen on going even further in the sport. That said, if he finds his right momentum against ‘The Truth’ on August 21, the 42-year-old should undoubtedly give a thought to continuing his boxing stint.
However, a win and the prospect of retiring on a high as a champion would be intriguing.
