“It’s the End of the Road”: Nick Kyrgios Retires Mid-Match During R3 Battle Against Felix Auger-Aliassime at Wimbledon Championships 2021

After putting up two block-buster performances at this year’s Wimbledon, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios disappointed fans on court one by retiring suddenly from the match.

Playing well against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third -round, Kyrgios wont he first set in blistering fashion. Even though the young Canadian seemed to be struggling with his serve, the Aussie continued his good form from the second round.

However, during the second set, Kyrgios began to have issues with his abdomen as his serve speeds cam down drastically. After losing his service game to Felix, the Australian’s level also dropped as he told the umpire that he couldn’t continue beyond the second set.

I can’t anymore. It’s getting worse and worse. I can’t do it. I’m trying, but I can’t serve anymore. I can’t do it”, told the Australian to the umpire.

Kyrgios loses second set 6-1, and that’ll be all.

“I can’t anymore. It’s getting worse and worse. I can’t do it. I’m trying, but I can’t serve anymore. I can’t do it.”

“Sorry brother,” Kyrgios says to Auger Aliassime as he retires, saying it’s an abdominal injury.#Wimbledon

Kyrgios waited for the second set to complete before heading over to the Canadian and announcing his retirement. Unusually, Nick Kyrgios was asked to wait up and say few words to the crowd as he is a clear crowd favorite.

Sorry guys, it’s the end of the road”, he said.

“Sorry guys, it’s the end of the road”, Kyrgios to the crowd.

Sad scenes.

It’s immensely unfortunate to see Kyrgios retiring midway from the match. Also, it’s a reflection on what he wants to do with his talent on a tennis court.
