“Needed My Main Weapon”: Nick Kyrgios Reflects on His Wimbledon Championships 2021 Retirement Against Felix Auger Aliassime

Nick Kyrgios yet again got into his opponent’s head at his third-round match at Wimbledon. He forced his opponent, Felix Auger Aliassime, to challenge his first serve. Despite his tricks and quality tennis, the Aussie sustained an injury and was forced to retire from the tournament.

What happened between Nick Kyrgios and Felix Auger

Felix Auger’s first serve was called out, and Nick suggested he would have challenged that call. As a sign of inexperience, Felix believes his opponent’s words and challenged the umpire’s call. He ended up losing his challenge, and Nick apologized as the players changed sides.

It was a cheap trick which Kyrgios pulled out of his pocket; however, karma struck the Aussie minutes later. Kyrgios retired after injuring himself at the end of the second set. He pulled out before the third set could begin.

“I’d challenge that if that was me,” Kyrgios says after an Auger Aliassime first serve is called out.

Kyrgios appreciates Felix during on-court interview

Nick Kyrgios was one of the performers to watch out for this year at the Wimbledon Championships. He faced a tough challenge from the main attraction at SW19 – the grass. None of the opponents could challenge the World No.60 in the first two rounds of the tournament. However, Felix received much-deserved praise from the Australian star.

“‘I haven’t played this level of tennis in a long time. Playing someone as good as Felix, I needed my main weapon, my serve, to be firing on all cylinders and I felt my ab just at the end of the first set,” said Kyrgios during his post-match interview.

Felix outplayed Kyrgios in the second game, as he went on to win 6-1. The pain in Kyrgios’ game was clearly evident as he was seen catching his stomach. The young Canadian has a long future ahead of him, as he is the next hot topic amongst the newcomers.
