Is Luka Doncic Playing at the Tokyo Olympics 2021?

The Mavericks, after their 2011 championship victory, are yet to traverse beyond round 1 of the playoffs. However, with Luka Doncic on their side, it is inevitable that they’ll soon get over the stigma. The Dallas fans carry dogmas of faith around this youngster.

But it is 2021 and it isn’t just about Dallas. The Slovenian people are also carrying the same aspirations for the Summer Olympics and believe that their hero can take them far. So what’s on cards with Luka and his homies?

Luka Doncic and the Olympics dreams

For Team USA, it is easy to hand pick from a pool of NBA players and build a roster full of All-Stars. But for the remaining nations, their best bet remains having just one or two All-Stars at the most. So for Slovenia, the day has finally arrived when they have a team built around someone like Luka.

In Slovenian basketball team’s bid to enter their first-ever Olympics, Luka Magic is coming handy. Recently, their squad beat both Angola and Venezuela to strengthen their chances of qualifying. Now, they’re just one win away against the Lithuanian team to earn FIBA qualified status and take the flight to Tokyo.

Notably, a total of 12 national basketball teams will lock horns in the Summer Olympics 2021 and Luka’s can be one of them.

How is the Mavericks star’s magic unfolding?

Luka Doncic was in great form prior to hitting the floor with his national team. He averaged a mad crazy 35.7 points in the series against the Clippers and that made it obvious that he will play with Slovenia too.

The Slovenian team’s best past success had come in the EuroBasket (2017) where Miami Heat’s Goran Dragic led them to title victory. In that very tournament, Luka had averaged 8.1 rebounds as a leading rebounder. Later, Goran retired from the national team in 2018 and that paved the way for Luka to grab the leadership.

Recently, the 22-YO scored a 23-point double-double in his country’s blowout win over Venezuela. After him, it was Mike Tobey with his 27 points and 12 rebounds to put Slovenia in a strong position. However, beating a 2003 EuroBasket winner and 2000 Olympics Bronze winner in Lithuania won’t come easy.
