Novak Djokovic Outshines Nadal and Federer in Another Open Era Record at Wimbledon Championships 2021

Novak Djokovic has broken and achieved many astonishing records over this illustrious career. In fact, after winning his opening three rounds at the ongoing 2021 Wimbledon Championships, the Serbian has set another incredible record.

Before the start of Wimbledon, Djokovic’s arch-rival, Rafael Nadal, held the record for the highest match percentage in the Open Era. Nadal stands at a whopping 1027 career match wins against 208 losses which put his winning percentage at 83.15%.

However, after Djokovic’s three recent wins at Wimbledon, he has now momentarily toppled Nadal to become the man with the highest match-winning percentage.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion has an impeccable 964-195 win-loss record, which makes his match-winning percentage 83.17%, slightly higher than Nadal.

In fact, the legendary Bjorn Borg, Roger Federer, and Jimmy Connors are ranked in order respectively behind Djokovic-Nadal in the list of male players having the highest match-winning percentage.

Having started his year by winning a record 9th title at the Australian Open, Djokovic followed it by lifting his second title at the French Open, breaking Nadal’s indestructible dominance on the way. By clinching the Roland Garros trophy, he became the first man in the Open Era to win each Grand Slam at least twice.

Djokovic, the powerhouse of mental fortitude, is just four wins away from a 20th Grand Slam title, a feat that would put him at par with Federer and Nadal in the Grand Slam race.

Up next, he faces a formidable challenge in the 25-year-old, Cristian Garin, in the fourth round of the All England Club. The duo has played once against each other at the ATP Cup this year, a match which Djokovic won in straight sets.

In a week’s time, Djokovic could find his hands over the golden trophy, a record sixth time at Wimbledon, a trophy that he used to make cardboard caricatures of as a child.
