Michael Chiesa Believes ‘s**t Human Being’ Colby Covington Does Not Deserve the Next Title Shot Against Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman has been an extremely active champion thus far in 2021. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ defended his belt twice in the space of 70 days. Two impressive knockout wins over the likes of Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal have put him as a front runner as fighter of the year.

The Nigerian Nightmare’ will most likely defend his belt later this year against Colby Covington per Dana White. However, that decision has not gone down well with number 6th ranked welterweight Michael Chiesa who recently shared his thoughts on a podcast with Michael Bisping.

He said, “I think whoever wins between me and Luque should be next. I don’t even want to say the guy’s name, because you know who’s name I’m going to say next. I don’t this f—king guy should be able to win one fight in a year and sit on the sidelines”

Maverick’ continued, “I think whoever wins between me and Luque should be next,” Chiesa said on Michael Bisping’s podcast. “I don’t even want to say the guy’s name, because you know who’s name I’m going to say next. I don’t this f—king guy should be able to win one fight in a year and sit on the sidelines….. I think he’s a fierce competitor, but I just think he’s a s—t human being”(h/t bloodyelbow.com)

Who should be next for welterweight king Kamaru Usman?

In the podcast, Chiesa also mentioned that since losing to Usman, Covington has only beaten Woodley. He continued that if that is the criteria for getting a title shot, Luque should beat ‘Chaos’ to a title shot as he stopped Woodley in one round and Covington took five.

Luque is on an impressive three-fight win streak and Michael Chiesa is on a four-fight win streak. The two men will face each other at UFC 265 next month and the winner will be one step closer to a title shot.

In the past, Covington has been snubbed for a title shot when Darren Till was given the opportunity ahead of him. Therefore, despite White’s assurances, it is not certain that Covington would fight Usman next. In that case, a fight against the winner of Luque vs Chiesa makes a lot of sense in the welterweight division.
