“Will Derail Me”: Novak Djokovic on Why He Doesn’t Pay Attention When Fans Call Him G.O.A.T

World No.1 Novak Djokovic recently registered his fourth victory at the Wimbledon Championships 2021. Facing Chilean player, Cristan Garin, the Serb never looked uncomfortable during the match. He gave away just eight games and thrashed his opponent in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

In the post-match interview, Novak Djokovic revealed that he doesn’t think much about the G.O.A.T debate while playing a Grand Slam. He mentioned that even though some fans call him the greatest player of all time, he just focuses on his day-to-day routine.

“I don’t allow myself to think too much about that (people calling him GOAT or one of). I need to go about my everyday routines the same way like before,” said Djokovic in the interview.

If Djoker manages to win the Wimbledon Championships 2021, he’ll tie Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the Grand Slam tally. He is also the only player to win every Grand Slam title at least twice in the Open Era and thus, it won’t be wrong to call him the G.O.A.T.

“Feel it will derail me”: Novak Djokovic on not giving attention to fans calling him the G.O.A.T

Djokovic stated that if he’ll start paying attention to the fans who call him the G.O.A.T, he’ll get distracted. He wants to stay focused and improve as a player and for that, he wants to train himself every single day.

“If I start giving away my attention to that, I feel it will derail me. So, day by day,” added the World No.1 player.

Novak Djokovic will next play against Marton Fucsovics in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships 2021. He is definitely enjoying some great form and at this point, winning even a set will mean a lot for Fucsovics. Will he be able to lift his 20th Grand Slam title in London this year?
