Britney Spears’ lawyer, Sam Ingham, has resigned from representing her, it has been claimed.

The Toxic singer has been represented by Ingham for 13 years, and was appointed by courts.

According to reports, he has asked to be dismissed as her legal counsel, and is thought to be filing legal documents to make this official.

A source told TMZ that he was ‘extremely upset’ with the 39-year-old’s bombshell testimony in court last month, in which she told the judge that she wasn’t told she could end her conservatorship.

The publication states the lawyer ‘regularly gave’ her options on the court order, and how it should end, and that she didn’t want to end the conservatorship.

Britney was placed under the order in 2008, with dad Jamie Spears in charge of her personal and financial affairs.

The mum-of-two has been fighting to be freed from the conservatorship, and compared it to ‘abuse’ in explosive testimony last month.

‘After I’ve told the whole world I’m okay, it’s a lie. I’m not happy and I can’t sleep. I’m depressed. I cry everyday … It’s my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back,’ she said in the hearing.

‘I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. I want to end the conservatorship without having to be evaluated. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive.

‘I want changes, and I want changes going forward. I deserve changes. I was told I have to sit down and be evaluated, again, if I want to end the conservatorship. Ma’am, I didn’t know I could petition the conservatorship to end it.

Britney’s longtime manager Larry Rudolph announced he is quitting (Picture: WireImage)

‘I’m sorry for my ignorance, but I honestly didn’t know that. But honestly, but I don’t think I owe anyone to be evaluated. I’ve done more than enough.

‘I don’t feel like I should even be in room with anyone to offend me by trying to question my capacity of intelligence, whether I need to be in this stupid conservatorship or not. I’ve done more than enough.’

Claims of Ingham’s resignation come after Britney’s longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, announced he was quitting, stating the Baby One More Time star will be retiring.

‘It has been over two and a half years since Britney and I last communicated, at which time she informed me she wanted to take an indefinite work hiatus. Earlier today, I became aware that Britney had been voicing her intention to officially retire,’ he told Deadline in a statement.

‘As you know, I have never been a part of the conservatorship nor its operations, so I am not privy to many of these details. I was originally hired at Britney’s request to help manage and assist her with her career. And as her manager, I believe it is in Britney’s best interest for me to resign from her team as my professional services are no longer needed

‘Please accept this letter as my formal resignation.

‘I will always be incredibly proud of what we accomplished over our 25 years together. I wish Britney all the health and happiness in the world, and I’ll be there for her if she ever needs me again, just as I always have been.’
