Ex-F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone Advises Mick Schumacher to Leave Ferrari for Red Bull Driver Academy

Being part of the prestigious Ferrari driver academy is a dream for anyone Formula One driver, but the chances of driving for the Scuderia can be difficult as there is an immense talent all around the paddock. Mick Schumacher is part of the academy, but currently getting his experience at Haas; still in his rookie season, it will take time for the German to reach the Italian team.

Hence, the former executive of F1, Bernie Ecclestone feels that the 22-year-old should leave the academy and join Red Bull’s. Ecclestone thinks that Schumacher Jr can excel at AlphaTauri and get immense experience than he would have at Haas.

Speaking to Bild, the British tycoon said, “I could well imagine the next team for Mick AlphaTauri. They do a good job and in Franz Tost they have an experienced man who is very good at dealing with young talents.”

How has the German been doing in his first season?

Coming off as the F2 world champion into the 2021 season, there was a lot of hype around Michael Schumacher’s son. A great talent to have behind the wheel, and showed potential to replicate his father on the Formula One track.

Schumacher Jr faced the usual struggles a rookie faces in F1, as he hasn’t been able to score points, and having a lackluster Haas car doesn’t help his case.

The best finish he had so far this season was at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he placed thirteenth. However, the German is determined to make the most out of his first season in the pinnacle of motorsport, take this as a learning curve, and come back stronger once he has settled into the sport.

As of now, Mick’s next agenda is the British Grand Prix, scheduled two weeks from now; he is hoping to have a better result than he did at the two rounds in Austria where he finished P19 in both, and maybe equal if not set a new best finish
