“It’s Huge Drama”: Karolina Pliskova Hits Back at Czech Media’s Negative Portrayal

World No.13 Karolina Pliskova recently advanced to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships 2021. She battled past Viktorija Golubic in straight sets in the quarters of the tournament and won the match quite easily- giving away just four games. The final scoreline of the match was 6-2, 6-2.

In the post-match interview, Karolina Pliskova talked about how she deals with the negativity from the media. She mentioned that these statements from the media are sometimes brutal but they don’t matter much to her. However, she also revealed that she faces a lot of backlash whenever she moves out of the top-10 rankings, especially in her own country.

“I think they can be quite brutal. I was five years in top 10. Then one week I’m not in top 10, and it’s like huge drama, especially in my country. I think these things, they just don’t help,” said Pliskova in the interview.

It is quite clear that the Czech player received a lot of criticism from the Czech press after her humiliating defeat against Iga Swiatek in the finals of the Italian Open 2021. However, she has managed to silence her critics with some exceptional performances at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 so far.

“This is something you need to, like, accept and just learn how to live with that. I think there is not much you can do about it,” added the World No.13 player.

Karolina Pliskova will next face Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships 2021 on July 8, 2021. Interestingly, she hasn’t lost a single set out of the ten that she has played at the tournament so far. Will she be able to conquer London this year?
