Joe Alwyn has been spotted kissing his co-star Alison Oliver on the set of upcoming BBC drama Conversations with Friends, offering a glimpse at the tender romance that the highly-anticipated show may bring.

The Conversations with Friends series is a TV adaptation of the Sally Rooney novel of the same name, which was published in 2017 and follows the relationships between characters Frances, Bobbi, Melissa and Nick.

Following the critical acclaim that Normal People received upon its release last year, which was based on the author’s second book, fans are clamouring to find out whether Conversations with Friends will prove just as absorbing.

Alison, who plays Frances, and Joe, who plays Nick, were photographed on Monday filming a scene in a car park in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, kissing inside the vehicle as a masked crew member stood close by.

In another shot, Joe, who has been in a relationship with Taylor Swift since 2016, was captured peering over his shoulder out of the car window at production staff.

In comparison to her co-stars Joe, Loki actor Sasha Lane and Sex Education star Jemima Kirke, Alison is less well-known, having recently graduated from The Lir Academy in Dublin, where Normal People’s Paul Mescal was also a drama student.

In the photograph of her and Joe in the car, Alison is seen smiling with her eyes closed as they lean towards each other.

In the Conversations with Friends book, Alison’s character Frances is the narrator, while Sasha’s character Bobbi is her best friend and Melissa and Nick are a married couple.

The TV adaptation will consist of 12 episodes, the same number as Normal People.

Earlier this year, Joe was thrown into the spotlight when his girlfriend Taylor thanked him on stage as she accepted the Grammy Award for album of the year for her record Folklore, which he co-produced.

In her shout-out, Taylor explained that her boyfriend ‘is the first person that I play every single song that I write’, adding: ‘I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.’

Joe, who was born in Kent, has appeared in films including Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, The Favourite and Harriet.

His only previous TV role was in the BBC’s 2019 miniseries A Christmas Carol, which he starred in alongside Guy Pearce, Andy Serkis and Stephen Graham.

Conversations with Friends is due to air on BBC Three in 2022.
